Theodore has called Halifax home for the past 21 years, but no more. Theodore, the beloved TV tugboat, left Halifax yesterday morning, bound for its new Ontario home. Theodore Too, the replica of the children’s TV character, was sold earlier this year to a new owner who intends to use the smiling vessel to promote the marine industry and responsible marine stewardship. Theodore, who was named as Halifax’s welcoming ambassador was put on the market for $495,000 last July.
Theodore left Halifax Harbour surrounded by a flotilla of other boats. The tugboat’s new location will be the Port of Hamilton. Upon arrival, its engine will be converted to biodiesel — a symbol of Theodore’s future as a “sustainability champion,”. The ships new owner, Blair McKeil said he’s arranged for the group “Swim Drink Fish” to use Theodore in educating Canadians about water conservation and restoration of the Great Lakes…The vessel, operated by a four-person crew, is expected to arrive at his new Hamilton home by July 1, with some stops along the way…….Ed
