Stampede Book For Kids

As the Calgary Stampede wrangles in visitors for its closing weekend, a new children’s book has been released to celebrate the history of the annual 10-day rodeo and festival.

‘S is for Stampede’ was written by Jennifer Webster and illustrated by artist Karen Coe for children aged 8 and up.

Webster wanted to preserve western heritage and she includes stories dating back to the first year of the event in 1912.

The biggest challenge was finding Stampede-related words to fit every letter of the alphabet.

Coe says the letter ‘N’ was difficult, but she came up with “neck tricks” –  a form of stunt riding on horseback.
