The Nintendo 64 was first released on September 29, 1996 in North America with anticipation and excitement. It was the last major home console to use cartridges as its primary storage format until 2017.[ As a console, it competed with the Sony PlayStation and the Sega machines.
Development of the console began in 1993 under the code name “Project Reality” and its launch was delayed until 1996 to work out all the bugs.. The console takes its name from the 64-bit processing unit. It was launched with two games in North America, the Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64. Time named it Machine of the Year in 1996. The Nintendo 64 was discontinued in 2002 following the launch of its successor, the GameCube. The price in Canada in 1996 was $200.00, which is about $350.00 today… These consoles are popular collectors’ items at yard sales….Do you still have a Nintendo or old related console game?….Ed
