There’s no place like a (new) home! One of the movie dresses worn by Judy Garland in the Wizard of Oz will go up for sale in an upcoming auction. The costume, worn by the ruby-slippered Dorothy in the 1939 film, was considered lost for nearly four decades before its re-discovery last year in a closet in the drama department at the Catholic University of America. Auction house Bonhams will put up the dress which needs some minor repairs for sale in Los Angeles on May 24th. Bonhams estimated the dress’ value at between $800,000 and $1.2 million and will exceed more than that for a true OZ fan. The dress is one of only four of the original costume in existence and one of only two still including the white blouse. This particular dress, according to the auction house, has been pinpointed as the one Garland wore in the scene where Dorothy confronts the Wicked Witch of the West holding Toto in her castle. When sold, the money will go towards supporting the Department of Drama at Catholic University. Now tap your shoes three times!!…Ed
