Well, this is different: Some airline passengers these days are apparently paying extra to board flights LAST, despite the fact that people often rush in order to board first. Gilbert Ott, who runs the God Save The Points blog, says that celebrities and A-listers often prefer to board last. Why? For one, boarding last can be considered a status symbol. He points out that it often occurs that after about 15 minutes of a plane idling, and everyone appears to be settled and ready for liftoff, “A true ‘A-lister’ magically appears, and the aircraft door practically closes behind them, on command, and the words ‘cabin crew, boarding complete’ comes over the loudspeaker.” Ott says anyone can pay for this perk at certain airports, for between $100-$4,000. That might also include a personal assistant to help you check-in and board, a limo and a private suite. And remember, as much as you sometimes wish you could beat the boarding rush and be first onto the plane, with assigned seating, doing so isn’t going to get you a better seat. (But if you pay to be last, don’t think that you’ll find space in the overhead bins!)
