With holiday weight gain a major issue for many (you’ve heard the “fact” that the average person believes they gain about 8 pounds during the holiday season…even if the truth is closer to ONE), a new study claims to have found a secret weapon in the battle to keep your holiday appetite (and your waistline) in check. The good news? It’s a snack. The bad news? It’s prunes. Researchers from the University of Liverpool discovered that eating more prunes helped a group of dieters better control their appetite, consume fewer calories, and even lose slightly more weight than people choosing other snacks during a 12-week test. People who ate prunes (as opposed to those who ate other snacks) generally consumed the fewest number of calories during their next meal. Prune snackers also reported feeling less hungry throughout the day, feeling fuller after eating, and feeling as though they couldn’t eat as much later on.
(Of course they couldn’t eat much later on. They spent the rest of the day in the bathroom!)
