City Of Brantford Issues Artist Call

The City of Brantford has issued an Artist Call for the creation of a new public artwork, or series of artworks, that will honour and celebrate the 150th anniversary of the invention of the telephone.

The city says shortlisted artists, as well as the final selected artist, will be determined through a combination of scoring criteria and deliberation by the Selection Panel.

Artwork fabrication will begin in January 2026, with installation scheduled later that year.

The final commissioned sculpture(s) will be installed in Alexandra Park, located at 265 Dalhousie Street.

Scottish born Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in Brantford on July 26, 1874.

The Bell family home and Canada’s first telephone office, “The Bell Homestead” is now a Canadian National Historic Site.
