“Moulin Rouge” was the night’s biggest winner at the Tony Awards in New York, taking “best new musical” among its 10 awards.
The musical “Jagged Little Pill,” taken from Canadian singer Alanis Morissette’s 1995 breakthrough album to tell a story of an American family spiralling out of control, went into the night with 15 Tony nominations, and left with wins for best book and best featured actress in a musical for its star Lauren Patten.
`The Inheritance” — a seven-hour play by Matthew Lopez — was named best new play. And “A Soldier’s Play” won best play revival.
