August Hydro One Tower Repairs Require Power Outages In Dunnville And Mississaugas Of The Credit First Nation

Hydro One tower repairs will cause an extended power outage in Mississaugas of the Credit territory and Dunnville.

The electricity company’s outage map shows a planned outage is expected to take place in the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation on Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Haldimand County’s Dunnville area is also set to have a planned outage from 5:30 a.m. to roughly 2 p.m. on Aug. 28.

Unfortunately it looks like there’s no other way to route this power so they have to take it down to make the repairs. Seems like an indication that more updates and upgrades to our powerlines are needed if there is only one way to get power into these regions.

The county said in a press release residents can access the Dunnville Community Lifespan Centre and the Cayuga Memorial Arena to cool off and charge their devices during the outage.

During the outage, Dunnville’s streetlights will not be operational and residents must treat all intersections as a four-way stop, the county said. This will also affect area businesses, so prepare accordingly.

Though the outage is only expected to last a few hours, the county has tips for those who do end up with no power:

• Check that appliances, like stovetops and ovens, are turned off.
• Electronics, such as cell phones and portable battery packs, are fully charged.
• Refrigerator and freezer doors are kept closed.
• Generators are operated in a dry, outdoor area away from windows, doors and vents.
• Use battery operated flashlights and lanterns, instead of candles.
• If using candles, keep them away from children and pets.
• Test their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
• Have non-perishable foods, like snack bars, trail mix and fruit, that doesn’t need to be cooked on hand.
• Have a 72 hour emergency kit on hand.
