The City of Brantford and County of Brant have officially halted plans for a major municipal boundary adjustment involving the airport. Officials say the upcoming municipal election cycle leaves insufficient time to finalize details. As a result, the meetings have also been cancelled.
The Ford government is looking into reopening the Brantford Jail as part of its plan to expand capacity. The move could add 125 beds. The province announced this spring it would spend $3 billion over the next 10 years to expand overcrowded jails.
Statistics Canada is set to release its latest Labour Force Survey for July this morning. According to a Reuters poll of economists, Canada is expected to have added 15,000 jobs last month, with the unemployment rate staying the same at 6.5 percent.
