It's Friday, October 9th. Good morning. It's the long weekend. It's 4 right now in Brantford, 4 in Kitchener, 7 in Hamilton. Gas down a cent to $1.85. I'm Stacey Englehart. Well, welcome to the long weekend. Thanksgiving is on Monday, a stat holiday. So keep in mind, government offices, banks, libraries, the LCBO beer store closed along with most grocery stores. Most transit runs on a holiday schedule throughout the GTHA. Hamilton firefighters say 2 house explosions shook parts of the city, sending three people to hospital with burns. Now, according to Hamilton's fire chief, they were unrelated, but they're still working to determine the causes. At one of the explosions, residents apparently smelled gas prior to the blast. And as you're getting set to shop for your Thanksgiving meal, just wait till the winter if you don't like the grocery prices now. According to food experts and economists, global diesel prices will have a massive impact at the grocery store. The diesel prices jumped 75% year over year in August. So how much have food prices increased over the last few years? Well, between 2015 and 2020, prices were up 12 to 15%. Between 2020 and 2025, they jumped up to 30%. Beef was up more than 60%, coffee and tea up more than 55, eggs up over 40%. The Bank of Canada's second quarter survey of consumer expectations showed Canadians are reporting widespread concerns about the higher prices. Despite that, the Bank of Canada continues to leave Canadians struggling under the weight of high interest rates with no signs they'll actually lower it. Sports. Baseball playoffs, Cleveland beat Chicago 9-5. That series now tied 2-2. In the NFL, Tampa Bay beat Dallas 24-16. The Buffalo Bills have a Monday night game against the LA Rams. NHL last night, a full slate of games. Among them, the Leafs lost to Vegas 4-3 in a shootout. Montreal lost to Nashville. Ottawa beat Philly. Calgary and Vancouver both lost. The Leafs back on the ice tomorrow with a game in Colorado at 7. In the OHL today among the games, Brantford Bulldogs play Kingston at 4. Kitchener is in Saginaw, Welph and Owen Sound. Both those games are at 7. And in the CFL tonight, the Tie Cats host Edmonton at 7. Weather, sunshine today, windy high of 19, overnight it falls to 5. Tomorrow sunny 21, rain Sunday with a high of 20, and holiday Monday cloudy 22. Right now it's 4 in Brantford, 4 in Kitchener, it's 7 in Hamilton. I'm Stacey Englehart.
