Nearly 300 railway signal workers with Canadian Pacific are off the job after their strike notice expired without a deal. According to the union, it affects communication systems from Vancouver through Montreal. The railway said it's implemented contingency plans. Food Banks Canada said employment insurance no longer serves the broader and shifting workforce as more people take up gig work or part-time jobs. In its latest poverty report card, the organization said the labor market has shifted and EI only caters to a shrinking workforce with a stable, full-time single employer.
