It's Thursday, July 2nd. Good morning. Feels 32 already in Brantford. A humidex at 32 in Kitchener, feels 32 in Hamilton. The dollar 70.39 cents U.S., gas a dollar 62. I'm Stacey Englehart. Well, I hope you enjoyed Canada Day, although your celebrations may have been cut short depending on where you were. Storms forced the cancellation of several events. including the big ones held on Parliament Hill. Roughly 168,000 Hydro One customers were left in the dark when severe storms blanketed a large portion of southern Ontario. 7,000 customers had no power in Brantford, with outages also reported in Waterloo Region and Hamilton. Now the heat wave is expected to continue through to the weekend. We'll have details coming up in the forecast. Tragedy in the waters yesterday in Hamilton. Police say a male kayaker died. A seven-year-old is missing at the same conservation area. Police said they were called to Binbrook for a missing child, and while they were searching, they got a call about a kayaker who capsized. Police have not released descriptions or names. Ontario's new auto insurance rules are in effect. It's supposed to give drivers the option of saving money on premiums, but it also means less coverage. As part of the new rules, some who may have previously been covered by another driver's policy may no longer be eligible. World Cup soccer yesterday, winners included England over Congo. Belgium eliminated Senegal, the US over Bosnia. Games today include Portugal and Croatia in Toronto at 7, with tickets as high as 30 plus $1000. Now this afternoon, Spain will take on Austria at three. And tonight, a more reasonably priced game in Vancouver will see Algeria and Switzerland at 11. CFL tonight, the Argos are in Calgary at 9, and two-time Stanley Cup winning goalie Sergei Bobrovsky signed a three-year, $21 million contract with the Leafs. He's 37. Light 92 weather.
