Sounds like better training could be needed, but according to a new report, charges were tossed or evidence was thrown out from Ontario court proceedings hundreds of times over the past 10 years because police officers in urban areas kept violating the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The report co-author and law professor at Western University said people accused of criminal offenses were frequently walking free, because of violations by officers in regions like Toronto, Peel, York, and Durham. Research looked at court rulings between 2015 and 2025 and found police violated the charter rights more than 1000 times. Ottawa is investing $1.4 billion to boost Canada's supply of heavy artillery shells. New facilities in Ontario and Quebec would produce explosives, casings, and propellants.
