But the number of older adults in Ontario living with opioid use disorder has more than doubled since 2019. According to a new study out of Toronto's St. Mike's Hospital, toxicity death rates have increased substantially. Research showed almost 1,100 opioid toxicity deaths among older adults in the province between 2023 and 2024, a staggering 75% of those between the ages of 55 and 64.
