The names of the pilots killed in Sunday's Air Canada plane crash in New York's LaGuardia Airport have been released. Toronto College Seneca Polytechnic said Mackenzie Gunther graduated from its aviation tech program in 2023. A number of media outlets also identify the other pilot as Antoine Ferret from just southwest of Montreal. The 2 pilots were killed when they were landing on a flight from Montreal and their plane crashed into an airport fire truck that was given the go-ahead to cross a busy runway to respond to another emergency. Investigators are looking into why. Well, the daughter of a flight attendant on the plane that crashed said it's a miracle her mother survived. She was apparently still strapped in her seat when she was thrown from the plane and found in the debris by first responders. She underwent surgery but is expected to be okay. The Ontario government plans to take over the Toronto Island Airport. Premier Ford says the move as a special economic zone will boost jobs and allow for long-planned expansions. Toronto's mayor calls it a land grab and says the public deserves a say, with opposition leaders raising concerns about oversight, noise and increased pollution in the downtown core. And Canada's Auditor General said an RCMP staffing shortage has only gotten worse in recent years. Karen Hogan reported the force first set targets that fell short of its own needs. then said it failed to recruit as many officers as planned, despite receiving a flood of applications. Her audit found the federal police force was short about 3,400 frontline officers last fall. Sports NBA last night. The Raptors beat Utah 143-127.
