I'm Stacey Englehart. An OPP constable killed in the line of duty yesterday in Northern Ontario. Police were conducting an investigation near the town of Hurst at about 1230 in the afternoon. It's believed Constable Tarran Bally was struck by a vehicle and later died. Police say he'd been with the service for 2 1/2 years. A former Air Canada pilot charged in what's being described as a complex fraud and forgery investigation spanning years. Police allege 59-year-old Jeffrey Wall used a fake license to captain hundreds of flights during a lengthy career based out of Pearson. A deputy chief of Peel Police called it, quote, similar to a doctor that is licensed to practice family medicine but is doing brain surgery. He allegedly used fraudulent documents to misrepresent his qualifications. Bank of Canada set to make an interest rate announcement this morning after a turbulent period of economic data. Well, Canada is in a recession. The central bank doesn't seem phased. They're widely expected to deliver a fifth consecutive hold to its benchmark rate, which stands at 2.25%. By the way, the last couple of recessions we had, our interest rate was 0.25 or 0.5%. Light 92 sports. NHL Stanley Cup final continues. Carolina beat Vegas 5-3. That series now tied 2-2. Baseball yesterday. The Blue Jays beat Philly 3-2. That home series wraps up with one more game tonight at 7. Canada's women's soccer team defeated host Costa Rica in an international friendly yesterday. NBA playoff final. San Antonio is New York tonight 830. The Knicks lead 2-1. The Toronto Tempo hosts Connecticut tonight at 7 in the WNBA and there's a victory rally tonight at TD Coliseum for the Toronto Rock. Doors open 530. Mayor Horvath and other dignitaries will be there. You can take a picture with the cup and meet the players.
