It's Wednesday, October 28th. Good morning. Happy hump day. It's cooled down to 6 degrees right now in Brantford. Six in Kitchener. It's 8 in Hamilton. The dollar 71.13 cents U.S. gas a buck 78. I'm Stacey Englehart. As Canadians struggle to pay their bills and meet basic financial needs, with recent data pointing to upwards of 50% of Canadians affected, reaching an all-time record high, looks like the Bank of Canada will make life more unaffordable. Financial markets and economists are betting Governor Tiff Macklem will deliver a quarter-point rate hike today. Monetary policymakers have long said they're looking past initial inflationary surges tied to rising energy prices. So expect your variable rate mortgage to go up. Ontario politicians back at Queen's Park for what's expected to be another short legislative session. Now the house will sit for another 12 days. Politicians only working 6 before they get another week off in November and then 43 days off for Christmas. They just came back from a five month break. The government set to table its fall economic statement tomorrow. Premier Ford, meanwhile, coming under fire for promoting a former cabinet minister who resigned over an expense scandal. Stan Cho stepped down as tourism and cultural minister after expensing thousands in Toronto hotel stays despite living in Toronto. So Ford promoted Cho to parliamentary assistant to the education minister. It comes with a pay bump, enough to cover the expenses he had to pay back. And the clock is ticking for whoever bought a $40 million winning Lotto Max ticket. OLG said the ticket was bought last October 28th in Great Bruce. So if it goes unclaimed, somebody loses $40 million. Light 92 sports, the World Series continued last night. Tampa Bay beat Milwaukee in 12 innings and cut Milwaukee's lead three games to one. The series could be decided tonight when Tampa Bay hosts Milwaukee at 8. NHL last night. Montreal blanked St. Louis 2-0. Vancouver edged Anaheim in overtime. Ottawa and Winnipeg both lost. The Leafs are in Seattle tonight at 10. Major League Soccer Toronto FC hosts DC United 730. And in the NBA tonight, the Raptors host Orlando 730. Kawhi Leonard is expected to be out for at least a week due to swelling in his knee. Light 92 weather, sunshine this afternoon, a high climbing to 20, overnight clear, 7, sunshine again tomorrow, just a slight chance of showers, but it gets up to 21. Right now it's 6 degrees in Brantford, 6 in Kitchener, it's 8 in Hamilton. I'm Stacey Englehart.
