It's Friday, January 23rd. Good chilly morning. It's minus 11 right now in Brantford, minus 10 in Hamilton, minus 13 in Kitchener. Gas up a cent to a buck 30. I'm Stacey Anglehart. Some areas of the province under special weather statements and watches because of the weather this weekend, a special weather statement issued for Waterloo Region, Cambridge, Halton Hills. Reduced visibility with blowing snow upwards of about 5 centimeters. But it's really all about the cold. Certainly a great weekend to cozy up with a hot beverage and maybe even a shovel. It could be one of the coldest days and nights of the year as a massive blast of Arctic air spreads across the province and other parts of Canada. Overnight tonight, it could feel close to minus 30. The coldest it's been since January 2019. Daytime temperatures won't offer much relief. Now areas of Northern Ontario along with the entire province of Manitoba, it's so much colder. Today's wind chill will feel minus 45 with some areas dipping as cold as minus 50. An executive with the Building Industry of Land Development Association said low home sales across the province are putting 100,000 jobs at risk in Ontario alone. According to new data, low new home sales in the GTA is the worst year on record for 2025. They're calling for the elimination on the HST for new homes. And an autopsy in Australia has determined a young Canadian woman found dead on a beach this week was not killed by a pack of wild dogs. A spokesperson for the local coroner said the body of the woman from BC showed evidence of drowning in injuries consistent with dingo bites. A recent 2023 incident in the same region saw a jogger chased into the water and attacked by a pack of wild dogs. Light 92 Sports NHL last night. All Canadian teams lost last night, including the Canadians. Winnipeg lost in OT, Ottawa and Edmonton also lost. Leafs host Vegas tonight at 7. PWHL last night. Toronto lost to Vancouver 5-0. In the OHL, Brantford lost to North Bay 5-4 in overtime. Niagara lost to Barrie among the games tonight. Brantford is in Sudbury, Kitchener hosts Owen Sound, London hosts Sarnia, Guelph hosts Erie. And tonight In the NBA, the Raptors are in Portland at 10. Light 92 weather, it's going to be cold. We've got flurries off and on, windy. Today's wind chill close to minus 27. Tonight, flurries, windy and cold, minus 22, feeling close to minus 30. There is a risk of frostbite. Sunshine tomorrow, minus 13. We'll feel about minus 16 in the afternoon.
