It's Monday, January 26th. Good morning, minus 13 right now in Brantford, minus 14 in Hamilton, minus 15 in Kitchener. The dollar is 73.06 cents U.S., gas a dollar 30. I'm Stacey Englehart. While students were hoping for this one, most schools closed today because of yesterday's massive snowstorm. Among the schools closed include Grand Erie District School Board, all Toronto schools, Halton, Hamilton, Niagara. Keep in mind, exams that were scheduled for today are being postponed. While heavy snow and extreme cold is making for a tricky commute across much of Atlantic Canada as well this morning, areas in Nova Scotia were expected to get hit. Parliament reconvenes today after the holiday break. Prime Minister Carney met last week with his ministers to set out a path for the first session of 2026. He said the struggle of Canadian families to make ends meet in a turbulent economy is expected to be the key theme, as the Bank of Canada set to make an interest rate announcement Wednesday, and it appears they will keep the rate exactly as it is. And the pizza pops recall announced before Christmas has expanded now to include even more products linked to E. coli. Canadian Food Inspection Agency said several varieties are affected. Consumers urged to check their freezers, throw them out, or return them to the store for a refund. Sports NHL yesterday. The Leafs struggling for a win yesterday lost again 4-1 to Colorado. Elsewhere, Ottawa beat Vegas, Vancouver and Calgary both lost. Leafs host Buffalo tomorrow at 7. Among the OHL games yesterday, Brantford beat Berry 7-1. In the NBA last night, the Raptors beat Oklahoma City 103-101. They host the Knicks Wednesday at 7.30. The AFC Championship yesterday, New England beat Denver 10-7 in the NFC. Seattle beat the Rams 31-27. Super Bowl 60 February 8th will feature New England and Seattle in California. Weather. We've got a few flurries off and on. Blowing snow. Still really cold today.
