So dress warm. County of Brant, residents facing a proposed property tax increase of 5% for this year. According to the expositor, that works out to an increase of about $206 for a property assessed just under $400,000. A total bill of about 4,300, 1% of the increase is a levy for the new hospital in Brantford Brant. Prime Minister Carney gets to work today in Switzerland at the World Economic Forum. He's expected to give a speech today and later meet with the French president. The Ontario Liberal Caucus has named John Frazier as their pick for interim leader, a role he's poised to hold for a third time. Frazier's represented the riding of Ottawa South since 2013 and served as interim leader in 2018 and again in 2022. Niagara's fire chief said his teams are trying to provide everything evacuees may need now that the city is hosting hundreds of people from the Sichuan First Nation fleeing a water crisis on their island community. More than 850 people are now living in two city hotels. Additional evacuees could arrive in the coming days. Inflation is up even higher than expected. According to StatsCan, it rose 2.4% in December. A break in last year's tax holiday was to blame, along with the surge in transportation costs. Airfare prices jumped almost 35% month over month.
